 2017 Preview

Colbert Heights completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Colbert Heights just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region eight with a 3-4 region record.

The Wildcats have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year.

Since 2010, Colbert Heights has gone a combined 34-38. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Colbert Heights has managed to compile a record of 113-151. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 3A and 261st in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats are led by head coach Taylor Leathers who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Colbert Heights. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Leathers.

Coach Leathers' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 4-6 (40.0%).

The Colbert Heights Wildcats will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2017 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season.

The Wildcats open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Red Bay on Friday, August 25 at Amos Mitchell Stadium. Last year the Red Bay Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 2A region eight. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Cleveland by a score of 41-14.

Colbert Heights and Red Bay have met a total of 40 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 15-25-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Red Bay winning by a score of 33-26.
